The Truth About Coffee and Dehydration

Posted on October 16, 2019

Being a true coffee lover, we do not want to be told that drinking this delicious beverage could have any other effect than just making us feel awake and awesome. Some rumours have been spread though that coffee can lead to dehydration, so where does this rumour come from and is it true?

The rumour goes all the way back to the 1920’s where some apparently java-hating scientists claimed that coffee dehydrates the body. This generalising myth has now been busted. Yes, coffee leads to frequent visits to the loo, however it is the volume of liquid that we consume which causes this. The same happens if you drink water, you know what I mean.

As long as you stick to two cups of coffee a day, your body doesn’t lose any fluids that may dehydrate you according to this newest study. Coffee, in fact, could help hydrate you when you have that cup or two throughout the day plus you’re getting that sweet dose of caffeine while enjoying them. Just like water is a good way to hydrate the body, so is coffee, enjoyed in moderation!
