Coffee will keep you alive, or so we hope! If you love coffee as much as we do, you’d be pleased to hear that coffee has a surprising number of health benefits, and this is thanks to the antioxidants found in the popular beverage.
These antioxidants help fight ‘so-called’ free radicals and keep them at bay. Free radicals what?? Free radicals are nasty chemicals that our bodies absorb from pollutants in the environment and they are also produced by some things we consume like alcohol, cigarettes, and certain processed foods.
These free radicals attack the body’s healthy cells and can cause many illnesses and aging. The antioxidants found in coffee and many other products could help prevent illnesses like type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, and heart disease.
Antioxidants may also lower the risks of certain types of cancer like cancer in the liver and colorectal cancer. Coffee can also boost your metabolism; it might help fight depression and improve cognitive function.
So, if you ever find yourself feeling guilty about the amount of coffee you consume or your co-workers call you a “coffee addict”, just think of the benefits that you might be gaining through each cup you drink. PS: Dinosaurs had no coffee. And how did that work out?
