Ideally, iced coffee is more than just hot coffee poured over ice. Making it that way only dilutes the coffee and can result in an unwanted bitterly taste too. The “real” iced coffee should ideally be cold brewed. Now while this may sound like a fancy barista term, it’s surprisingly easy to make. Making your iced coffee this way will reduce the acidity of the coffee and in turn enhance the sweetness.
How to make Iced Coffee in 3 easy steps:
- Step 1: In a 1-quart measuring cup, bring together 1/3 cup ground coffee – ideally something to the likes of our Uber Filter Blend - and 1/3 cups cold water. Mix this until a smooth texture is achieved.
- Step 2: Cover the coffee mix thoroughly and put in it the fridge during the night. No less than 5 hours and no more than 10.
- Step 3: Remove it from the fridge, then strain the coffee through a coffee filter-lined strainer – over nice tall glass of ice. Push it through with a spatula.
There you go! Real barista styled iced coffee in just 3 simple steps. With this recipe, there’s really no need for you to go to a coffee shop for it. If you want to make a bigger batch for later, you can go ahead and triple this recipe. Once strained, it'll be good for 2 days in your fridge.
And hey, if this recipe is just TOO simple for your liking, you can try it Vietnamese-style by adding a tablespoon of sweet condensed milk. Or better yet, do it Italian style by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream and then garnish with chocolate. In other words, you’ll have yourself a merry ol’ ice cream float for grown-ups! Never has iced coffee tasted this good - and never has it been this easy! For best results of course, be sure to use your choice of quality coffee.
